Scentolio
How We Research Fragrances
Clear information. Room for different opinions.
Catalogue information
We use brand publications and other fragrance references to check names, concentrations, dates, creators and notes. We keep source records internally so corrections can be checked. Where sources disagree, we review the exact version rather than borrowing details from another concentration.
Notes describe a scent impression; they are not necessarily an ingredient list. Missing dates, credits and performance information remain unknown until we can verify them.
Overviews and editorial reviews
Our overviews explain the fragrance as a whole: its background, character and place in a collection. Scentolio Team reviews are marked Editorial review. These are researched perspectives, not first-hand wear tests unless an article explicitly describes a test. We do not create fictional member reviews.
Editorial illustrations may be AI-generated. They illustrate a topic and are not evidence of an ingredient, a launch event or a wear test.
Ratings and member reviews
Some fragrances have a captured rating baseline from an established fragrance community. New Scentolio member ratings contribute to the displayed average in proportion to their vote count. Original records and member votes remain separate in storage.
A captured sentiment breakdown is different from a star-rating distribution. We keep those categories separate. Imported ratings are not marked up as Scentolio-only ratings for search engines.
Member reviews and uploaded photos go through moderation. We may reject spam, copied content, abusive posts or unrelated images. Editing a review returns it to moderation. A negative opinion alone is not a reason to remove a review.
Retailer links and corrections
Retailer links can earn Scentolio a commission. A listing is not a guarantee of stock, seller quality or the lowest price. Check the product version, size and seller before ordering.
If you spot an error, send the page URL and the detail that needs correcting to [email protected]. A link to reliable supporting information helps us check it.
