Overview

The Essence connects Beckham’s interest in motorcycles with the feeling of adventure and time spent outdoors.

Introduced in 2012, it takes a fresh, fruity and aromatic direction, with a woody warmth beneath the brightness. Olivier Polge created the fragrance.

The motorcycle reference is unusually tangible: the embossed glass was designed to suggest a tyre track across the bottle. That detail makes sense of the release as a whole, tying its energetic image to Beckham’s life away from the pitch. The Essence launched under its own name rather than as another edition of Instinct.

An easygoing fragrance idea

The Essence combines a fresh, fruity direction with a softer woody finish. It is worth considering if you want something less smoky than Bold Instinct and less overtly floral than the women’s releases. Its motorcycle-inspired bottle is distinctive, but the scent style should decide the purchase rather than the packaging alone.
