The perfumer
Jacques Polge
About
Jacques Polge led fragrance creation at Chanel from 1978 to 2015, following earlier work at Roure Bertrand Dupont. During that long tenure, he helped shape the house’s modern perfume identity through creations including Coco, Coco Mademoiselle, Allure, Chance and the original Bleu de Chanel.
His work also included N°5 Eau de Parfum, introduced in 1986 as an interpretation of Ernest Beaux’s earlier composition. That combination of new fragrances and carefully developed interpretations is an important part of his legacy at Chanel. His son Olivier Polge succeeded him, continuing the house’s tradition of an in-house perfume creation laboratory.
