Eau de Parfum

Overview

Philosykos is Diptyque’s portrait of a whole fig tree. Olivia Giacobetti’s Eau de Parfum interpretation, released in 2012, gives the wood and bark particular prominence.

The story begins with a summer memory of walking through wild fig trees in Greece. Leaves, sap, fruit and wood all belong to that scene, which explains why Philosykos reaches beyond the sweet fruit its name may bring to mind.

The overall character is green and milky, with white cedar reinforcing the woody side in this version. Within Diptyque’s collection, it is a landscape translated into fragrance, as much about the tree’s surroundings as its fruit. The Eau de Parfum is the interpretation to examine when comparing how much emphasis each Philosykos version gives to the wood.

More fig tree than sweet fruit

Philosykos Eau de Parfum makes sense if you enjoy green, outdoorsy scents. It’s inspired by the whole fig tree, and this version puts more emphasis on the wood than on the fruit.

That’s worth knowing if “fig perfume” makes you picture something sweet and jammy. This may be a different direction from what you expected. Try the Eau de Parfum alongside the Eau de Toilette if you can, and choose the balance you like. The less sweet option can be the more interesting one, depending on your taste.
