François Demachy

François Demachy grew up in Grasse and spent much of his career at Chanel before becoming Dior’s Perfumer-Creator in 2006. He held that role until 2021. His work at Dior includes the Sauvage family, while his wider career reflects a close relationship with the growers and raw-material specialists behind perfume ingredients.

Demachy describes composition as a patient process of giving an idea a shape, then refining its balance. Flowers and natural materials are central to his training, with patchouli and amber among his personal interests. The documentary Nose follows his travels and ingredient sourcing, offering a view of the research and craftsmanship behind his finished fragrances.
